Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you. -- Carl Sandburg

Trip Over

I got home Sunday, 8/21.  My cell phone completely died on Monday and it is my main internet at home.  It will not get any power or connection from the cable so it has no juice at all.  I now am limited to finding free wi-fi hotspots until I get a new phone.  Choosing a new phone is not a simple project so I have to do research.  I am not pleased with the durability of the phone (Samsung Moment) - not even 2 years yet.

After this trip, I am seriously considering an alternate cell connection.  One of the pay-go hotspot devices on the Verizon network so I have an alternative to the Sprint network.  I didn't really like having to find a free wi-fi hotspot to do internet.  It works better for me to get my camp spot and be able to do some internet in the evening.  It really irks me that almost all other industrial countries get faster cell service for about the half the price and they can use it without penalty on the entire network.  The lack of reasonable govt. regulation of our industry is making this country fall further and further behind in capability and meeting consumer needs.  Just one more instance of the failure of unregulated capitalism.

I wrote blog entries most nights on the trip but into a file because of my internet problems while on the road.  I will edit the pics and enter the entries in calendar order into this blog a little later.  My house has need of some serious catch-up work (weeds and cleaning) after its nearly 2 month abandonment.

After all the time living in my van, the house really feels like an albatross around my neck.  The work required to maintain it is not what I want to spend my retirement doing.  I kept feeling like I had to get back to it because of the grass and weeds growing.

  1. Hear! Hear! to the unregulated capitalism bit.

Okay, Ancient Mariner, what happens with the house now? Are you trying to sell it, or is there another situation I've lost track of (sorry!)?

  2. You got that ancient part right! The ultimate plan is to sell the house and move back west. Or maybe just wander about in the van for a while. Before that can happen, I have a whole lot of work to finish on the house and land and clear out a ton of accumulated detritus of life. Got to get serious about it...
